Myers-Briggs Type Indicators® (MBTI)

Overview

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) is a self-report questionnaire designed to make Jung’s theory of psychological types understandable and useful in everyday life. MBTI® results identify valuable differences between people – differences that can be the source of much misunderstanding and miscommunication. The MBTI® helps explain why different kinds of people are interested in different things, are good at different kinds of work and sometimes find it hard to understand each other.
After more than 50 years of research and development, the current MBTI® is the most widely used instrument for understanding normal personality differences. Because it explains basic patterns in human functioning, the MBTI® is used extensively for a wide variety of purposes including the following:

  • self understanding and development
  • career development and exploration
  • organisational development
  • team building
  • management and leadership training
  • problem solving
  • training in diversity and multicultural awareness

The MBTI® process begins with an 88-item questionnaire, which takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. The questionnaires are scored and recorded by a specially trained professional.
The questionnaire is not a test.
There are no right or wrong answers and there are no better or worse personality types. There are only personality differences, which can be used to help to create understanding.

Benefits

The MBTI® promotes the understanding of self and others, facilitates better communication between people, and provides a valuable tool for managers and individuals to handle communication issues and build teams.
