Researcher Development

PhD comics - an event for researchers everywhere

Life in academia can have it's ups and downs and it's important for researchers to realise that they are not the only ones suffering from a lack of results, papers being rejected or a maniac supervisor.

Jorge Cham, the author of PhD comics visited Glasgow to share his alternative and hilarious take on academia.  Often described as the Dilbert of academia ,  aspects of Jorge's talk resonated with many of the 300 researchers in the audience who had attended from the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde and further afield.

Dora Glavezcruz, a PhD researcher from Computer Science, invited Jorge to speak as she pointed out that one of the most difficult things about reseach can be its isolated nature.

This event took place in May 2008 and was funded by the Researcher Development Initiative to give researchers the opportunity to meet people who are in a similar situation to themselves and see that they're not alone in experiencing the highs and lows of a research project.
