IBM Placement for Research Students


Put your technical skills to the test in a real life scenario
Applications are now closed for the 2008 programme.  We are currently trying to guage whether there is enough interest to run this programme in 2009.  If you think you might be interested, get in touch.

The University is partnering with IBM to run an internship programme
for Postgraduate researchers who want to put their research and
technical skills to the test.  Following a week of intensive training,
you will have the chance to work on a real life project relating
services science.  A stipend will be provided to cover out of pocket
expenses.

Who is it for?
1st-3rd year PhD researchers from the fields of science and engineering.

How to apply:
You will need permission from your supervisor before you apply, as you
will be taking 5 weeks out of your research project.  You will be
expected to commit to taking part in the entire programme, it is not
possible to elect to attend only part of it. 


When will it run?

Week 1:   Induction, 25th-29th August 2008   An intensive training course
that will help to prepare you for the placement and develop skills such
as leadership, team work, conflict resolution and project planning.
Following this, you'll meet your company sponsors, get the project
brief and start building up your team.

Weeks 2-5             1-26th September 2008
Four week internship at IBM, Greenock, working in a group of three on a
specific problem
