Student laptop scheme

To help you with your studies, the University of Glasgow has joined forces with Dell to offer a range of University compatible laptops and desktop PCs at discounted prices.
Added to this is the option to purchase Microsoft Office at a substantially reduced cost as well as a number of optional upgrades and services.

Complete peace of mind 3 year next day on site business support and maintainance from Dell (IT Services recommends the upgrade to 4 years)
Specified to work in the University's flexible network access environment.

The Scheme is also open to University of Glasgow staff

Windows Vista

IT Services advises that you do NOT purchase Windows Vista for any machine intended for use within the University. This is due to unresolved technical issues from various hardware/software vendors and is out with our control. We will therefore be unable to support you.  We will update this advice when the position changes. IT Services recommends Windows XP Professional SP2.

Models available

Four models of Dell laptop are available, all of which are specified to work with the University of Glasgow's IT systems:

  • Entry level:Latitude D531
  • Medium model 1:Latitude D530
  • High end model 2:Lattitude D620  

These details are correct at  14 April 2008, but the precise specifications may change from time to time as Dell upgrade the range of products they offer.

There are also two desktop systems available under the same agreement.

Any purchase is between the Consumer and Dell. The University of Glasgow receives no financial incentive for this initiative. Consumers are entitled to cancel orders within 7 working days of delivery; product return at the cost and risk of the Consumer. Dell collection charge £49 + VAT.
