About the upgrades

in 2008 IT Services and AV services (Now called AVIT) agreed to upgrade all centrally booked teaching space. This programme of work was planned in 2 phases. Phase 1, which involved bringing over 120 rooms up to an 'entry level' AV standard was carried out during the 10 week summer period when teaching rooms were accessible. The second phase is the installation of PCs in all of the upgraded spaces, is being undertaken currently.

Entry level standard

To obtain best value for money, functionality and usability and using the expertise and experience of the AV teams it was determined to bring the teaching spaces to a common 'entry level standard'. Thus there is now a common standard across campus teaching spaces which we can build on, which should improve the usability of the spaces for staff.

PCs and laptops

As part of the upgrade we are providing a PC in each teaching space which you will be able to use to make your presentation, connect to internet based resources etc. In addition you will still be able to use your own laptop to give presentations and use either wireless or wired access to connect to the internet. We envisage most people will use the PCs  but in the interim we still have laptops available to book as was previously the case. more about PCS and laptops.
note: We recommend that laptop users use the 'Flexaccess' wireless service using VPN  for internet access.

Feedback

Now that all identified spaces are, or in the process of becoming, entry level standard we hope the users of these spaces will provide us with feedback on the spaces. What works, what doesn't, what else you would like to see implemented etc. Give us feedback.

Training

IT Services recommends users attend the AV equipment training course to familiarise yourself with the new standardised equipment.
