eSharp
is an international online journal for postgraduate research in the
arts, humanities, social sciences and education. Based at the
University of Glasgow and run entirely by graduate students, it aims to
provide a critical but supportive entry into the realm of academic
publishing for emerging academics, including postgraduates and recent

Funding for 'student-led' initiatives
For postgraduate students interested in organising an event (e.g. organising a seminar, a colloquium, a networking event, a publication), there are a number of organisations that students might approach for assistance in terms of funding:
- Postgraduate Research Committee: contributes funds towards postgraduate activities and events. Contact Prof. Christodoulidis.
- New Initiatives Funding (or 'Roberts Funds'): university funding available for student-led events. Researcher Development website.
- AHRC Collaborative Research Training Scheme 'Student-Led Initiative:' funds events organised by PhD students. AHRC website.
- ESRC Researcher Development Initiative: 'student-led initiatives' form part of its funding objectives. RDI website.
- Adam Smith Research Foundation, a cross-body faculty at the University: funds events within its research themes. ASRF website.
- Journals in a particular subject area may be a source of funding, depending on the type of event proposed.
Adam Smith Research Foundation Doctoral Scholarships
Every year, the Adam Smith Research Foundation offers a number of PhD Scholarships within five research themes which include “Legal and Political Thought”. Details of scholarships are available on their website.
The deadline for scholarships tenable from October 2008 is now closed. The next closing date for applications is expected to be 1 May 2009.
University of Glasgow Postgraduate Research Scholarships
A number of University and Faculty Studentships are available annually. These studentships are available in all departments within the LBSS faculty. A studentship award will pay both maintenance and fees at the home/EU rate. Further details: University postgraduate research scholarship application procedure(rtf, 35kB).
The deadline for scholarships tenable from October 2008 is now closed. A new round of applications will be invited early in 2009.
Post-doctoral Positions in Helsinki

Georgetown University Law Center invites student candidates to apply for its new Masters of Laws (LL.M.) in Global Health Law. This full- or part-time intensive course of study, under the direction of Lawrence O. Gostin, J.D., LL.D. (Hon.), Associate Dean and O’Neill Professor of Global Health Law, is open to highly qualified candidates in public and private sectors with their J.D. (or first degree in law from outside the U.S.) and specific interest in global health law, policy, ethics, and human rights. Website.
