About us
The Centre for Drug Misuse Research opened in 1994 committed to a simple philosophy, namely that those working to reduce the impact of drugs misuse in Scotland need to have access to reliable and up to date information obtained on the basis of high quality, systematic research.
Drugs misuse is a topic that affects people across Scotland and it is for this reason that researchers within the Centre try to be as open as possible about the nature of their work so long as this does not jeopardise their ongoing research.
Researchers within the Centre have undertaken work on projects such as:
- The DORIS Study
- User involvement in treatment decisions
- The impact of problem drug use on parents and siblings
- Estimating the national and local prevalence of drug use in Scotland
- Growing up with drug dependent parents
- Community responses to drug misuse
- Drug testing
- Routes out of drug misuse
- Drugs and driving
- Drugs and crime
The remit of the Centre also encompasses the (STRADA) national drug and alcohol training programme. This important development is one way in which the Centre seeks to ensure that the results of research are available to those working to reduce the impact of substance misuse within Scotland.
