Our reputation
The Department has earned an international reputation within both academic and professional accounting circles for the quality of its research and teaching since its inception in 1925.
- The Department was awarded a 5 rating The UK RAE ranks department research from 1 (lowest) to 5* (highest) in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.
- In a recent study* which looks at the global ranking of accounting programmes, Glasgow rates 34th in the world and 6th in the UK during the most recent period studied (1998-2005).
- In a recent ranking of 253 European universities in terms of publications in 19 top accounting journals, the Department was ranked 7th for accounting research output, rising to 5th in the more recent period.
- The Good University Guide (The Independent & PricewaterhouseCoopers); rated the department's BAcc 4th in the UK and 2nd in Scotland.
Undergraduate degrees
Our undergraduate BAcc degrees are accredited by all the major UK professional accounting bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Postgraduate degrees
Our postgraduate degrees are designed to help satisfy the growing demand for rigorous and well-trained researchers and practitioners in all aspects of accounting & finance. With the rapid growth of global change in organisations, economies, societies and education, the need for researchers and practitioners of the highest quality has never been higher.
The University's Postgraduate Open Day will take place on March 5th 2008 between 2 - 6 pm in the Wolfson Medical School Atrium.
Our new home
In 2007 the Department moved to the landmark Gilbert Scott building, which was renovated with state-of-the-art facilities suitable for teaching the modern student. Why not take the Photo Tour of our new home?
Scottish University of the Year
The Sunday Times has named the University of Glasgow as the 'Scottish University of the Year' for its "outstanding academic reputation, growing international standing and popularity with students".
